Operating for over 50 years, Play Matters Australia aims to provide children with the best start to life by empowering parents and carers with the skills and confidence to guide and support their children’s development through the fundamental act of play. All children have the right to play as stated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, Article 31.
Play Matters Australia’s ethos of recognising parents and carers as a child’s first teacher is embedded in our organisation’s theory of change and underpins our programs, service design and delivery. We know that the first 1000 days are critical to a child’s development. A child’s successful attachment to parents and carers lays down the neurological foundations for lifelong learning.

Little Kickers started in the UK in 2002. Christine Stanschus was living in London at the time and spotted a gap in the market when trying to find pre-school football classes for her son. Child obesity was becoming a hot topic and Christine couldn’t believe there weren’t pre-school classes to get young children involved in and enjoying sport, so she decided to do it herself.
With a successful career in investment banking rather than football coaching, it was clear she needed to play to her strengths in business and find football and developmental experts who could help her shape the classes.
It was a recipe for success. Christine focused on building a brand around “fun first” making sure she worked with experts in child development as well as FA qualified football coaches. Together they created programs that would deliver high quality football skills, combined with important pre-school learning concepts such as colour and number recognition, sharing, following instructions and using imagination.
With a network of 2,250 coaches and 300 franchises in 32 countries, we’re now the world’s biggest and most successful pre-school football academy and there’s plenty more to come. We’re constantly enhancing our classes with the help of our experts and we’re always happy to hear from people who want to become a franchisee and experience a better work/life balance while running a successful business.
The Fitzgibbon Community Garden is in Mount Kaputar Avenue, Fitzgibbon, 4018. Fitzgibbon Chase is an “affordable housing” estate developed by Economic Development Queensland (EDQ). Fitzgibbon is in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, bounded by Carseldine, Bracken Ridge and Taigum.
The Fitzgibbon Green Thumbs have two purposes: to care for and enhance the local environment and to nurture a community garden.
Our vision is that, through gardening, we will create and nurture an inclusive, connected community where the lives of participants are enriched as they learn and share in sustainable activities that enhance their health and our environment.
We have a ratio of 60:40 communal to individual plots, and a waiting list for individual plots. All members are involved in caring for the communal plots, working bees, group activities and fundraising.
Fitzgibbon Community Centre is a family-friendly learning and social inclusion hub in the heart of Fitzgibbon. As well as offering activities to learn, thrive and engage in life to all ages and all abilities, the Centre also provides and encourages diversity, community development and sustainable living and practices.
